219 North Main
The Hub Clothing - 1916-1980

1879 - Henry Pfeiffer

The decorative facade, with elaborate stone window surrounds and stone quoining, invites comparison to the fancy sugar pastries and candies sold here from 1879 to 1909 by Henry Pfeiffer, a confectioner from Braunschweig, Germany.

Henry Pfeiffer's family sold the confectionery shop in 1909 to merchants Polski and Shapiro for $8,000.  The two men opened a clothing sore that later became known as The Hub, which continued as a men's clothing store until 1980.
