The first catholic chapel of Termen was built around 1500. Termen was part of the parish of Naters until 1642 and Glis from 1642 until 1913. In 1911 the church St. Josef was built and Termen became a parish of its own.
The church was built by local architect Kalbermatten in neo-gothic style. The columns in the nave are made from granite from the Simplon mountain. It was organized in November 1913 by bishop Julius Mauritius Abbet.
The church is located at the north border of the residential area just next to the cemetery.
