"Smyth County
Area 435 Square Miles
Formed in 1832 from Washington and Wythe, and named for General Alezander Smyth, members fo Congress for many years. Salt works here were operated at an early date, and near Saltville a battle was fought, 1864."
"Grayson County
Area 425 Square Miles
Formed in 1792 from Wythe. named for William Grayson, on of the first two United Sates Senators from Virginia. Headwaters of New River are in this county."
