A modern, simple but interesting sign with a rural theme, that’s lost its royal connection with oak trees.

This is a slightly unusual sign having been painted onto a quite large plank of wood. I don’t know whether the wood actually came from an oak tree or not.
The pub was re-furbished and re-opened on the 14th December with new tenants after a period when the pub had been closed.
The pub was originally called the Royal Oak, a common pub name referring to the time in 1651 when King Charles II hid in an oak tree after being defeated in battle.
The new pub sign and name keep a link with the old name, but tries to show the pub has moved on and has a new image with the simpler version of just The Oaks.
There has been a pub on this site since at least 1927, at which time it was only half the size, the other half was at the time a shop. To this day the pub is still situated on a street of shops.
