Elle doit son nom à la rue Cadet. Autrefois, la rue traversait la propriété de Jacques et Jean Cadet maîtres jardiniers.
La station est inaugurée en 1910.
Hector Guimard (1867–1942) est un architecte français et le représentant majeur de l'Art nouveau en France.
Il est l'auteur des fameuses entrées de métro de Paris (fonte sur armature de fer), aux inflexions végétales.

The station is situated in the intersection of the street "Cadet" and of the street "La Fayette".
