The plaque reads "Dedicated during the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater's Centennial Celebration in 1968. This building honors the beginnings of public education in Wisconsin and the Normal School graduates who taught in one-room schoolhouses like this across the state. Built as the Granville School in 1868 at the corner of W. Bradley and N. Granville Streets in Milwaukee, WI, it was preserved by Paul Rush of Milwaukee. The efforts of alumni, President Walker D. Wyman, and the Whitewater Foundation brought the schoolhouse to campus in September 1966.
