In Brookline, on the westbound side of Route 9 is the Longyear Museum, which is dedicated to preserving artifacts related to Mary Baker Eddy and the discovery, foundation, and growth of the Christian Science church.

The museum is independent from the Christian Science Church, which runs the Mary Baker Eddy Library for the Betterment of Humanity in Boston, which focuses on the writings of Mrs. Eddy. This museum focuses on the timeline of Mrs. Eddy's life with artifacts that relate to that time period. It was started by Mary Beecher Longyear. In 1937, the museum was opened in Longyear's former home. In 1999, the museum moved to its present home and has been open since 2001.

There are three exhibit galleries. One is a permanent exhibit with Mrs. Eddy's timeline. One is a changing exhibit - at the time it showed artifacts about her immediate family. The third doubles as a lecture hall and had an exhibit about the early students and pioneers in Christian Science.

Outside, the museum has just added artifacts that came from Mrs. Eddy's home in New Hampshire, called Pleasantview. There is a stone gate, a gazebo, and a fountain. On the other side of the building is a garden area.

In addition to the museum, Longyear Museum also owns several houses that Mrs. Eddy lived in. These houses are open for tours - check the web site for hours.

Mary Baker Eddy was born Mary Baker in 1821 in Bow, NH. She had been healed of complications from a fall when she slipped on ice in 1866. From that time, she worked with ideas that she had thought about since the healing, which led to the publishing of her most read work, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, in 1875, and the founding of the Christian Science Church in 1879. She passed on in 1910.

The web site has a lot more on her life and details about visiting there and lists any specially events that are planned there.
