The Abbey was built here in 558 by Childebert I. It also served as a scriptorium- where manuscripts were copied. It remained the center of intellectual life until the French Revolution caused it's demise. It was rebuilt in 1014...with other portions being built or rebuilt later. The philosopher Rene Descartes is entombed in one of the Church's chapels. Read more about it at (visit link)
