She was similar to the Greek God Nike, but was more important to the Romans. She was especially worshipped by successful generals returning to Rome from war.

Because of this Victoria often appears on war memorials like this one originally erected after the First World War.

The memorial is a Grade II listed Building, English Heritage ID 491096. It is also listed in the UK National Inventory of War Memorials under reference 28482. It is situated in Greengates, a suburb of Bradford in the UK.

The sculptor was British born Louis Frederick Roslyn and was of German descent. He was the UK’s most prolific sculptor of World War I war memorials , many of them incorporating a winged figure of Victory.
