The Cimitiere du Montparnasse was created in 1824. It has become a tourist attraction because of the many famous people who are buried here. Wikipedia's entry for the cemetery (
visit link) lists about a hundred notable people including Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre, Captain Alfred Dreyfuss, Mexican President Porfirio Díaz, Charles Baudelaire, Guy de Maupassant and actress Jean Seberg.
According to an official historical marker at the site, there are over 34,000 graves over the 19 hectares (about 47 acres).
