(PT) O antigo Couto Mineiro de Rio de Frades localiza-se na freguesia de Cabreiros (186 habitantes), junto à povoação de Rio de Frades; as primeiras minas de volfrâmio foram aqui demarcadas em 6-MAI-1914 (o volfrâmio também conhecido por tungsténio). A exploração destas minas, no período das Guerras Mundiais, foi efectuada pela Companhia Mineira do Norte de Portugal, pertença de alemães. Do ponto de vista social, e a título de comparação, as minas de Rio de Frades, onde chegaram a trabalhar mais de 3000 pessoas, foram tão ou mais importantes que a mina de Neves Corvo no Alentejo, que tem cerca de 1000 trabalhadores, e que é uma das mais importantes minas actuais da Europa.

(ENG) The old mines of Rio de Frades located in the parish of Cabreiros (186 inhabitants), near the village of Rio de Frades; the first wolfram mines here were demarcated on 06th May 1914 (wolfram is also known as tungsten). The exploitation of these mines, during the World Wars, was carried out by the Mining Company in northern Portugal, owned by Germans. From the social point of view, and by way of comparison, the mines of Rio de Frades, where worked more than 3000 people, were equally or more important than the Neves Corvo mine in the Alentejo, which has about 1,000 workers, and is one of the most important mines of today's Europe.
