Stredoveký puvodne gotický hrad se nachází ve Stredoceském kraji asi 13 km jihovýchodne od mesta Rakovník.
První zmínky o hradu pocházejí již z 12. století. Puvodne sloužil jako lovecký hrad. Prestavby se Krivoklát dockal hned za vlády Premysla Otakara I. i jeho syna Václava I.
Ve 13. století se hrad stal jedním ze sídel ceských králu a tím nabyl patricného významu. O další prestavby se postarali Premysl Otakar II. a Vladislav Jagellonský.
Na hrade žila napríklad Eliška Premyslovna, detství zde prožil Karel IV., který se tu strávil i dlouhý cas s manželkou Blankou z Alois.
Za vlády Habsburku se stalo z hradu vezení, ve kterém byl uveznen napr. Edward Kelley.
Hrad mnohokrát vyhorel a byl castokrát prestavován. Od roku 1929 patrí státu.

Krivoklát Castle can be found in Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic.
Krivoklát was founded during 12th century and belonged to Bohemain kings. During the reign of Premysl Otakar II a large, monumental royal castle was built, later rebuilt by king Václav IV and later enlarged by king Vladislav of Jagellon.
The castle was damaged by fire several times. It was turned into harsh prison and the building slowly deteriorated. During 19th century family of Fürstenberg became castle owners and reconstructed it after a fire in 1826.
Today the castle serves as museum, tourist destination and place of theatrical exhibitions. Collections of hunting weapons, Gothic paintings and books are stored here.
Village Krivoklát slowly grew up under the castle since 14th century.
