David H. Lowe III (1921-2004)
"Mr. Lowe was a Manatee Pocket pioneer, founding David Lowe's Boatyard in 1954 with his wife, Betty. As a member of the Manatee Pocket Advisory Committee, he strongly supported the renovation of Sandsprit Park in 1992 and took great pride in the park's redevelopment. This flagpole is dedicated in his memory by the Lowe family."

Lowe was original from Deep Creek, Menchville, VA. His father and grandfather ran a boatyard in Virginia. Lowe served during World War II and moved his family to Florida via boat. When they arrived in the 50s, they were one of only three families living in Rocky Point (across Manatee Pocket from Sandsprit Park). David and Betty operated David Lowe's Boatyard on Manatee Pocket for 47 years. Betty died in 2008.

The plaque and flagpole are appropriately located in Sandsprit Park. The park is located off Saint Lucie Blvd where the Manatee Pocket meets the Saint Lucie River. The park features a boat ramp, small fishing pier, picnic tables, and playground. It is a popular place to fish, walk, or just enjoy a lovely evening with a great view.
Location: Sandsprit Park
