This 1792 marble sculpture is entitled "Alexander Combattant" and depicts Alexander the Great fighting from a crouched position. The work is missing the ends of both forearms...but presumbaly the work once had or is meant to convey that Alexander is fighting with a sword. He appears nude but for a helmet and a cape wrapped over his left arm. Alexander (356 - 323 BC) was King of Macedon who by age 30 had created a huge empire. His legacy was the spread of Greek culture through much of the Mediterranean and Asian nations. Read more about him at (visit link)

The artist, Charles LeBoeuf (1792-1865) was a French sculptor...who only has a French Wikipedia page at (visit link)
