This bronze sculpture, #13 of 22, is based on a marble sculpture created in 1788, and stands in front of the National Heritage Museum, which is a gift of the Scottish Rite, a branch of Freemasonry.

In Lexington, in front of the National Heritage Museum, is a bronze statue of George Washington, standing next to a column.
The bronze statue is on a cubic stone and faces the road. The head looks to the distance. He has his right hand on a cane and his left hand on the column. The column is draped with something like a coat or a sheet. There are lots of nice detail on this statue, including the ruffles at his throat, and the creases in his clothes. The base has the following words: "Washington - The Free Mason."
On the stone monument is a plaque that has the following:
"Washington: The Free Mason
Jean Antoine Houdon (1741-1828), Sculptor
Original statue sculpted in marble, 1788
Bronze casting, 1924, #13 of 22, by the
Gorham Company Founders, Providence, RI
Generously loaned by the Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, Ohio,
to the Supreme Council, 33rd degree, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite,
Northern Masonic Jurisdiction, USA, for exhibition at the
National Heritage Museum."
The National Heritage Museum is a musuem about the history and heritage of America. The museum was a gift of Scottish Rite to the nation on its Bicentennial in 1975. The museum is open most days; see the web site for details. The grounds are open every day, so the statue is accessible most of the time.
