The sign shows an otter and the millennium year. It is made of iron and painted black.

The village of Ottershaw is named after the near-by Ottershaw Park, which was part of Windsor Forest.

The sign was erected in commemoration of the millennium and was commissioned by the Ottershaw Society. It was designed by Michael Stride and made and erected by G S Precision and Garman & Mount. It was dedicated on 29 January 2000 by Olive Garland and Ross Hopkins.
