The Minute Man Sculpture, National Heritage Museum - Lexington, MA - Figurative Public Sculpture on Waymarking.com

In Lexington, on the grounds of the Scottish Rite Northern Masonic jurisdiction, which includes the National Heritage Museum, there is a bronze sculpture of a minute man along the walk to the museum entrance. If you look carefully, you might find something 'not quite right' about the figure.

The sculpture was cast in 2005, according to the plaque in front of it. The figure is of a young man, about life-sized, with a musket in hand, in a pose that hints that the man is rushing to assemble and ready for battle.

If you look down at the position of the legs, you might note something that is odd. If you compare the length of the lower leg, you might notice that the leg that is behind (right) is longer than the leg (left) that is bearing the weight. Additionally, look at the outside of each boot and count the number of buttons on each boot. On the left boot, there are six buttons, but on the right boot, there are seven!

The grounds are generally open every day, but the museum is generally open on Wednesday through Sunday. Check the web site of the museum for specific times and dates and the exhibits currently on display.
