There are many bays along Oregon's coast, of course, but the area of Coos Bay and North Bend are often referred to simply as "the bay area." But several other smaller towns are significant parts of the bay area. While the large lumber ships make their way up the river to Coos Bay, the town of Charleston, where this sign is located, is home to a beautiful harbor for fishing boats, and a well preserved estuary.
There are several similar signs around the Bay Area, but this one welcomes visitors to Charleston, located north of the drawbridge over the bay, and depicts a fishing boat with the name "Charleston," coming into harbor.
