The Harold Ness Post 249 of the American Legion in Maxwell Iowa was founded in 1921. The Auxiliary Unit was founded the same year. Their original building was on the corner where the Casey's gas station is now. After that building was destroyed, They met in members homes until their current building at 77 Main Street was purchased & renovated in the 1970s. This information was obtained from Ila Barrett, the current Unit President.
