A granitic boulder is the remnant of cataclysmic Missoula Ice Age floods that occurred about 15,000 years ago. This glacial erratic was trapped in or carried atop an iceberg during the floods. When the flood waters reached the area now known as the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge it was 300 to 500 feet high. As the waters receded and the iceberg melted the large rock came to rest. This large rock was granite from the Rockies and Canada rather than the basalt rock of the surrounding area.
Instructions for logging waymark: A photograph is required of you (or your GPS receiver, if you are waymarking solo) and the granite erratic.
