The pictured brick pavers were part of the Garfield Statue Project which was started in 2004. The Sweetser Lions Club asked for donations and sold engraved bricks to raise the $10,000 needed. In Sweetser, Indiana, "College-bound Garfield" was unveiled in October 2006; the statue is located along the popular Sweetser Switch Trail after the needed money was raised by the Sweetser Lions Club. This statue, one of 11 across Grant County, Indiana, was originally placed in front of the non-functioning train cars the Lions Club uses for club functions. Unfortunately, this original placement was vandalized as its lower left arm was cut off, but the statue was repaired by summer 2007. Garfield now overlooks the engraved bricks that purchased his residence in Sweetser, Indiana. Local citizens can still purchase these pavers to continue their support of the ongoing maintanence of Garfield as well as other functions of the Sweetser Lions Club.
