Eyecatching sign welcoming you to Johnsburg, IL. The photo and coordinates were taken from Rt 31. (There's heavy traffic in this area due to construction.) The sign is constructed of stonework and cement.

The Johnsburg area was settled by immigrants from Germany, who named the village after their church, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. When Johnsburg incorporated they chose to have the historic church on the village emblem. Apparently, there was concern over separation of church and state, so in order to keep the church on the village seal they had to remove the crosses.
