This trail linked many travelers between Fort Carlton and Touchwood Hills Post, part of the Hudson Bay Company chain. A major fur trading route for Metis Freighter with their oxen and cart, Indian travelers and few notable people.
Earl of Southesk passed thru in 1859 for big western game hunting. Dr. Cheadle and Lord Milton used the trail in 1867. Cheadle and Milton penned a book called "Northwest Passage By Land" which in turned opened up the West to pioneers.
In 1874, Inspector Jarvis and the North West Mounted Police used part of the trail
With the police patrols the trail was well used, eventually leading pioneers to settle the land. Wheat fields became in demand which meant straighter roads had to be built, the trail slowly disappeared.
