The series intended as a political propaganda to support the official attitude of the Communist party. The series were filmed in the 1970s.
Each episode encompasses one year, and investigations are stylised to that year. Most stories were inspired by real cases. The series follows the life of state police investigator Jan Zeman during his career from 1945 to 1975.
Episode 14 - The End of Great Chance (Konec velke sance, 1957)
Escape of Arnold Hackel and Hanka Bizova to former West Germany was filmed at the Czech - Austrian border crossing Nova Bystrice - Grametten. The building on Czech side of the border still stands
but now is abandoned. Fortunately the massive crossing barrier where the truck was admitted to "Germany" was took out in early 1990s.
Episode 21 - A Gentleman from Salzburg (Pan ze Salcburku, 1964)
Like escape of Arnold Hackel and Hanka Bizova in the episode The End of Great Chance the another truck crossing scene centered on the actual border crossing point. Rudi Lorenz transported the family of emigrants from the GDR (East Germany) to Austria. As well as previuos series this was filmed in the very same place - the border crossing Nova Bystrice - Grametten. The same direction of driving truck was rather than to Austria to the Czechoslowakia inland.
