Ginger Goodwin was a coal miner and union activist. He was a conscientous objector during the First World War, and rather than report for service he disappeared into the mountains around Comox Lake, in Cumberland. He was tracked down and shot by a Dominion Police special constable in July 1918.
On the day he was buried, the majority of workers in Vancouver staged a 24 hour strike.
