Peaks of Otter Road
This road was followed by General Hunter when he crossed the Blue Ridge at the Peaks of Otter and came to Bedford en route to Lynchburg, June 16, 1864.

Major General David Hunter was on a "scorched earth" campaign in central Virginia, as charged by Grant. This effort was stopped at the referenced Battle of Lynchburg.

Marker is on corner in front of Bedford Middle School. It has been broken off (car accident?) and rewelded back together.

For a visit, please take a photograph of the marker. Enjoy the history lesson.
