This obelisk was erected as a marker for the road turning for the Temple Hotel which is not visible from the road.

It was built sometime before 1830 and became a grade II listed building on 25th January 1990. The English Heritage building ID is 430117.

It stands at the junction of Temple Road and South Parade and 3 of the faces are painted with the words ‘Temple Hotel’.

Matlock Bath is a small spa town and the hotel was built in the 1760s at the height of spa town popularity.
