The coat of arms of the Royal House of Gwynedd, held by a statue of Prince Llywelyn ap Iorwerth at the centre of a fountain in Lancaster Square in Conwy.

Llywelyn ap Iorwerth (or Llywelyn the Great or Llywelyn Fawr) (1173-1240) may have been born at Dolwyddelan in Gwynedd. He was probably brought up in Powys under the protection of his maternal relatives as the infant may have been a potential menace to the power of his father's half-brothers in Gwynedd. Between 1199 and 1203 he restored the undivided sovereignty of his grandfather (Owain Gwynedd) over the whole of Gwynedd. Relations with the English crown were stable with the marriage of Llywelyn to Joan, King John's natural daughter in 1205, although relations broke down in 1210 with a series of military skirmishes in Wales by King John. Llywelyn was able to secure his own position among his fellow princes in Wales and after 1216 was never seriously threatened. He died in April 1240 and was buried in the abbey at Aberconwy.

This painted bronze statue is located at the centre of Lancaster Square in the town of Conwy and was unveiled in 1898.
