St. Ignace is located on the Upper Peninsula side of the Straits of Mackinac, making it the logical stopping point for anyone crossing over, just as they did when they constructed the Mackinac Bridge. only in the 1600's the crossing was made in boats, and the cove was the prime stopping point.
