The state park, Stadtpark, along the ring road in Vienna is well known for its many statues of artists and musicians, including Franz Schubert and Anton Brückner. The most popular and famous statue is that of of "The Waltz King", Johann Strauss. This gilded statue of the composer playing a violin was created in 1921 by the Austrian sculptor Edmund Hellmer. He stands upright framed by a stone arch which is decorated with the figures of naiads.
The stamp is part of a four stamp set issued by the United Nations in Vienna depicting famous sculptures in Vienna.
