The Corn Exchange Bank opened in New York in 1853. One of its branches was apparently here near the corner of Flatbush and Eighth Avenues in Brooklyn, not far from Grand Army Plaza. Later it merged with Chemical Bank and ultimately became part of JP Morgan Chase. Lo and behold, there is a Chase bank operating out of this same location today.

Mr. Gary Fonville, a preserver of old New York history, has written a bit more about this company, with photos of some more of their ghost signs, at (visit link) .

According to Mr. Fonville's account, the specific name of the bank used here means that the sign postdates 1929 but predates 1954.
