Bass
In cask and bottles.

For a time, it looked as though we were going to lose this, one of the UK's best beers. As with many breweries, Bass was bought out by a bigger, multinational, company. The Belgian giant, Interbrew, was seen as a clear threat to the future of one of our proper beers. However, the brewing of Bass was licensed to a small Midlands brewery, Marstons.

Water is one of the key elements to beer. Just any old water out of the tap is not good enough. It must come from the right place and have the right trace minerals in it. The yeast is also vital. Once the correct strain for a particular beer is lost, the beer will never be the same. Bass is still brewed in the right area using the right yeast. Of course, the hops and the barley changes every year with the vagaries of the weather.
