Old photographs show a large pump in the middle of the cross roads. In the middle of the road, where there is now only a triangular man hole cover. See pix. Bailey Lane is gently sloping and one day a car lost its brakes and demolished the pump, which was in the middle of the road. Flowing water can be heard under the triangular cover, presumably a stream was covered by the road when surfaced.

Heysham Heritage Association"The Village pump was at the junction of Bailey Lane, Knowlys Road and St Mary's Road. It was destroyed in a vehicle accident about 1930. For the past 200 years it had been the major provider of water for the village."
A replacement ornamental pump and stone trough are in the flower bed on the junction. The pictures are the new pump which is not connected, but may have worked at one time.
Park on street at the given coordinates.
