The Weir House was built in 1836 and is the second oldest house in Edwardsville with the Stephenson House built in 1820 being the oldest.  The 2-½ story brick house was built in a Federal style and was based on "Philadelphia row house" plans brought to Edwardsville from the east coast by Dr. John Weir.  The house has a side entry which was used for Dr. Weir's patients to enter his office which was also located in the house.   The house remained in the Weir family for three generations until it was sold to Madison County Historical Society to use as a museum in 1963.  The house is well maintained.
