This marker is located on a boulder, like most of the others in this Park...and reads:
"For many years this area of Bluff &
Exchange (Jefferson) was Joliet's business
center, On the NW corner pioneers
traded at T.P. Dunham Hardware (later
Barrett's), Clement Mercantile, Wilcox
Drygoods, and W.A. Strong Hardware.
Charles Clement, who was influential in
the establishment of many of the first
businesses on Bluff, purchased this acre
of land in 1835 for $125.
