The Cowesett Pound was built circa 1742 by David Green. The stone enclosure was built to hold stay animals. The town would appoint a pound keeper to feed, water, care for and collect a fee from the owner when they claimed their animals. The last pound keeper for the Cowesett Pound was appointed in 1926 thus the pound was used for nearly 200 years.
The pound is in a deteriorating state at this time but the basic form can still be seen.
