In the UK an organisation called SUSTRANS promotes cycling and sponsors long distance National Cycling routes.

Route 66 is an east to west route that connects Kingston-upon-Hull and Manchester, a distance of about 100 miles.
Route 67 links Loughborough to the south of Leeds to Northallerton to the north of Leeds a distance of about 130 miles.

The Trans Pennine route is a combined walking, cycling and horse riding route connecting the North Sea on the east coast at Hornsea and the Irish Sea on the west coast at Southport. This route was originally proposed by a consortium of local councils, but is now part of the Sustrans network. As well as the direct coast to coast route, there are a few spurs that join it north and south. At this point you’re at the start of the spur from Leeds to the main route at Barnsley. This is a distance of about 25 miles.

M is a local route sponsored by Leeds city council and connects Middleton with Leeds City Centre, a distance of 5.8 miles. Wherever possible it avoids busy roads.

All the routes are trying to promote cycling, and encourage people to go green and reduce car usage.

This area used to be home to heavy industry with coal wharves on the navigation. It has recently been redeveloped with shops, restaurants, apartments offices and the Royal Armouries Museum. At this point the cycle routes are passing behind the museum.
