Charles Hutchinson was one of a group of second generation Chicagoans who fostered the arts in the city at the end of the 19th century. He was a president of the Chicago Board of trade and a founder of the Art Institute and its president for 43 years, where he helped build its collection. The sculptor Faggi also did work in the south side's St Thomas the Apostle Church in Hyde Park. (source: Ira Bach "Chicago's Public Sculpture" 1983)
