In this area of Lincolnshire, a number of pubs were bought up by the Manners family. the Manners were keen supporters of the Whigs who had adopted blue as the party colour. In this area there are a number of 'blue' pubs including a bull, a cow and horse amongst others.

Many pubs called the bull were done so in aliegence to the Catholic church as a reference to the Papal Bull or seal.
