Welwyn Garden City is a new town and as such there is relatively little history to hang on to for pub names. However, close to this spot is Ludwick Hall, a Grade II listed building. It appears on the 1880 OS map of the area.
The entry for the listing is as follows:-
C16/early C17. Two storeys, plastered timber framed house with 2 end cross wings
with gables. C18 addition of one storey to front of western gable. Main block
has 2 windows of 3 lights, wood mullions, casements, modern glazing bars on both
floors and a central pedimented C18 doorcase. Painted brick plinth. Square central
stack, old tile roofs. Interior has exposed timber supports and ceiling beams.
It now seems to be a popular local music venue.
