The Baptist Community Church began as a home Bible study group in 1887 and began regular services in the “little log school house” in 1897. The railroad arrived in 1902 and the community continued to grow. In 1925 the church began construction of the current building which is made entirely from lava rock. The rock was hauled by horse and wagon from a local source on Blizzard Mountain. The building was dedicated on November 3, 1929 after four years of volunteer labor and local donations. The building was designed by the American Baptist Home Mission Society and was placed on the National Register on November 29, 2001.
