The masonry two-story house was built in an Italianate style which was a common style in the area during the mid-nineteenth century. This house was built by Horace H. Ellsworth in about 1873. It was first occupied by his father William, Horace lived in a house a house across the street. Horace moved into this house upon the death of his father.
Horace H. Ellsworth was one of the leading citizens of Windsor during the late nineteenth century with several business interests. He served as a director and then principal partner of the Windsor Cannery. He was a developer of other commercial interests.
Members of his family lived in the house until 1955.
The house is well maintained and continues to serve as a single family home.
