This coordinates will take you to the arqueologic station of Abicada.
This station was probably build in the I or II century. It was a Roman Villa dedicated to agriculture and fishing.
Roman Villas were like the Roman version of modern processing plants. The nearby fields were used for agriculture and the nearby sea for fishing. The production was stored and conserved in the Villa.
The fish was processed, conserved in salt (there are traces of fish processing) and then send to the final destination by boat. This location was chosen probably because of that. The nearby fields were and still are very fertile and it´s close to sea providing the fish and at the same time allowing the boats to dock near the villa and take the processed fish to it´s destination.
There is also a residence part where you can see the typical Roman mosaic floor (there were also some wall paintings that can be seen in Lagos museum).
Little is known about the places used for agriculture and the port location still remains unknown.
At this time few more details are known from the place.
The place is unknown for most tourists that come to the region and even most of the locals (even if they know of it´s existence) never been there.
The ruins had some consevation work a few years ago but, other than that, little was done and the ruins are more or less abandoned.
But, still a very interesting place to go and maybe if the interest increses the local authorities notice it and take some actions.

To find the Ruins you should take the EN 125 road (Estrada Nacional 125). Between Penina and Figueira, at N37º 09.717 W008º 35.717 leave EN125 and follow the signs. it´s a dirt road but you can do it with a normal car.
