The early colonial settlements here were destroyed during the French-Indian War, with official incorporation in 1774. It flourished as a farming community and the establishment of mills and industries along the Warner River.

Warner is now a gateway town to the Lake Sunapee area to the west, with its summer and winter sports, and to Mt. Kearsarge, the third highest peak in the White Mountains, overlooking its northern border. Than annual Fall Foliage Festival is a major regional attraction.

It is conveniently located just off an exit of Interstate 89.
