The bridge provides a crossing point over the River Wharfe and connects the nearby Barden Tower with the small village of Appletreewick.

Barden Tower was a hunting lodge of the Clifford family, the owners of Skipton Castle, which had been rebuilt in 1485.

These days it carries road traffic, but is only wide enough for one car. It’s a good job that this is a quiet road with little traffic. On the bridge are a number of passing places for pedestrians.

There is a small free car park on the Eastern side of the bridge.
