Kingman Airport, though officially classified as a General Aviation Airport, handles over 1,000 commercial passengers each year. Commercial flights, subsidized by the federal government, are to the destinations of Las Vegas, Nevada and Farmington, New Mexico.
The airport was developed in 1942 as an Army Air Force school for aerial gunners. After World War II it was used as a storage and disposal facility for surplus war aircraft. In 1949 the facility was transferred to civilain use.
