This historical marker tells about Jesse James’ first train robbery in the west. It is just inside Adair’s city park and has the following inscription on the stone:

“Site of the first train robbery in the west committed by the notorious Jesse James and his gang of outlaws, July 21, 1873.”

The marker has an etching of a steam engine above the inscription. The Adair City Park is on the east side of the main street going into town.
