Albert and Ebenezer Fox almost have cult hero status. However they were not very law abiding and have a unique place in forensic science history too.

Albert and Ebenezer Fox were identical twins who made a career out of crime and took advantage of their 'twinhood'. Although they were born into a respectable family, they were frequently sought by the police. they would go poaching, but never together - after all they would need an alibi.

However, at a time when finger printing was becoming available to the police as an aid to detection there were a number of studies of twins including the Foxes. It was proved that although they were identical twins, actually they had different fingerprints.

Between them they were convicted of 200 crimes, mostly poaching, but seemed to have been uncountably popular.

They both died in Chalkdell House, the Poor Law Institution in Hitchin. Albert died aged 79 and Ebenezer, 68.
