For many years people from a large swath of Arizona, California, and Nevada have been flocking to the Laughlin area for the outdoor adventure and recreational opportunities offered by Lake Mohave and the Big Bend area of the Colorado River. In 1964 Don Laughlin, who operated a casino in Las Vegas, decided that the area could use some Las Vegas style entertainment. He bought up a large portion of the southern tip of Nevada and opened a combination motel and casino. From this small beginning has blossomed the third most-visited gambling center in the state of Nevada.
