One of three similar benches, this bench depicts three books...the largest at the bottom is entitled "Too Many Tamales", the second is called "The Spider" and the third book on top is open...and reveals Cambodian script. (This neighborhood has a large Cambodian immigrant population.)

A plaque on the bench reads:
"ART BOOK BENCH
LONG BEACH PUBLIC LIBRARY
ELEANORE AND PETER SCHMIDT
IN MEMORY OF OUR PARENTS"

The three benches collectively are a 2007 sculpture by Steve Elicker called "Open Books Open Minds".
Artist: Steve Elicker
